From nonclassical: "'After a couple of minutes, everyone in the room just stopped,' says Jessica Cottis. 'I think we were really drawn into this visceral world of colour. It was very special.' Reylon performed a new work by composer Alex Ho, entitled Rituals and Resonances, which grew out of Alex’s desire to explore stories of the Chinese diaspora and the paradoxical sense of nostalgia one may feel for a place they did not grow up in. The performance was outstanding, leaving both the audiences and judges speechless and earning him top place at this year’s Battle of the Bands."
Introducing Tangram: the artist collective creating and curating new Chinese music
Together, Reylon, Alex Ho (composer), Beibei Wang (percussion), and Daniel Shao (flute) have formed Tangram, an artist collective creating and curating new Chinese music. As artists from various backgrounds, they share a common desire to tell stories of the Chinese diaspora. Their work includes reinterpreting traditional repertoire, presenting pieces influenced by Chinese culture, and exploring new soundscapes with Chinese instruments. Their projects begin with reflections on our personal experiences and extend to broader considerations of the complexities of cross-cultural existence.
